Fund-raiser for paralyzed boys:

Walter Payton's Roundhouse Complex today will host a fundraiser for three paralyzed young men. The event is scheduled for 1(to 4 p.m. in the complex's outdoor courtyard, 205 N. Broadway Ave. in Aurora. It will feature food, beverages, games and several bands: Kevin Purcell & The Nightburners (rocking blues), Sofull Jo (Metallica tribute), Still (modern rock) and D141 (alternative). With a theme of "We Can Make It Happen," proceeds will benefit Rob Komosa, a paralyzed teenager from Arlington Heights; Rasul "Rocky" Clark, a paralyzed teenager from Eisenhower High School; and James Joseph"J.J." O'Connor, who was paralyzed while playing hockey in 1995. Call the complex at (630) 264-2739 for more information.

Garage sale helps youth group:

Arlington Heights and Inverness are separated by geography but linked today by a garage sale. The 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. sale at 95 Gaelic Court, features computer equipment, furniture, clothing, television sets and audio equipment, games, toys, glassware, a rowboat and even English riding saddles. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Arlington Heights Assembly No. 81 of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. The order is a Masonic youth group for girls between the ages of 11 and 20. New mini-golf course in Bartlett:

A new miniature golf course has opened in Bartlett. Bartlett Family Putt & Putt is at 1301 W. Lake St. The 18-hole course was built by Chris Baird Jr. on top of a miniature golf course that had closed. Baird had tried to open up a miniature golf course on park district land near the Apple Orchard Golf Course but was turned down by the park district. Rates are: $1.75 for golfers ages 12 and under; $2.75 for teens and adults. Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Farmers market returns to town:

The annual farmers market is coming back to Mount Prospect. The market will resume Sunday and will be held every Sunday thereafter through Oct. 14. The market is held at the Mount Prospect Train Depot west commuter parking lot, near the corner of Northwest Highway and Route 83. It runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each week, and features fresh produce, flowers, herbs and other products.

Public invited to Flag Day event:

Members of the Des Plaines Elks Lodge 1526 invite you to celebrate Flag Day with them at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Lodge, 495 Lee St. The origins of national Flag Day are in the "Elks Day Flag Day Service" which began June 14, 1907 in Philadelphia. It wasn't until President Harry S Truman signed a law in 1949 that June 14 was designated Flag Day across the country. The observance at the Des Plaines Elks will include the Elks Ritual and a gun salute by the Des Plaines VFW Drill Team.

Dist. 96 schools to get wired:

The board of Buffalo Grove-Long Grove Elementary District 96 will spend $325,000 to wire two schools for the Internet and upgrade their electrical systems. This summer, Kendon Electric Inc. of Lake Forest will add electrical outlets and network jacks at Kildeer Elementary School and Twin Groves Middle School. "It's honoring the last piece of the referendum," said board President Andrea Freier. "This will allow us to have Internet access in every classroom."
