SOC:Muscat to miss Perth match
WELLINGTON, Aug 30 NZPA - The Wellington Phoenix will be without key defender Manny
Muscat for this Sunday's round five A-League soccer match against Perth.
The right back, one of the Phoenix's most consistent performers during the past two
seasons, has been called into the Maltese squad for international matches against Israel
on Thursday and Latvia next Tuesday.
Troy Hearfield is expected to take Muscat's place for the match in Perth.
Goalkeeper Mark Paston is also doubtful to make the trip. Paston has been struggling
with a groin strain and had trouble kicking during last Friday's 1-0 loss to Brisbane.
Recently acquired goalkeeper Danny Vukovic is next in line to don the gloves.
Meanwhile, Socceroos defender Jade North is with the Australian national team in Europe
for friendlies against Switzerland on Friday and Poland next Tuesday but a Phoenix spokesman
said the defender could arrive in Wellington in time for the match against Sydney FC on
September 11.
If not, his first match for the club would most likely be against Melbourne Victory
on September 15.
