Vic: Cricket fans urged to take it easy at Boxing Day Test

MELBOURNE, Dec 24 AAP - Cricket fans are being urged to maintain their fluid levels,
cover up, and slip, slop, slap during Tuesday's Boxing Day Test at the MCG in Melbourne.

St John Ambulance is urging the 90,000 people expected to turn out to the MCG match
to think about their personal safety.

Spokesman Peter Cocks said taking some easy steps could prevent injuries on the day.

"Many injuries at major events like these are avoidable by taking some simple precautions,"

he said.

Cricket-goers are urged to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, bring warm clothing
in case of cool weather and any medication taken regularly.

Sunscreen should be worn, even if it is overcast, and thongs and open footwear avoided.

About 100 St John volunteers will be on hand at the MCG to provide first aid throughout the day.
